The Plantronics GameCom 780 is a widely reviewed and affordable headset. In use, the headset has reasonable sound for its price, good comfortability and a decent microphone.
The downside to this headset, is that it has a serious structural fault that will probably see your headset breaking in around 1 year of use. You could say that you pay for what you get, and that for a cheap headset, it’s not likely to last long, but I think that a flaw which makes the headset basically unusable isn’t acceptable.
The flaw is down to the headstrap behind made of plastic, with the section that goes from the headband to the cylinders holding the earpads being very thin. After a year of picking the headset up and adjusting it to your head, the plastic will bend enough that it will break, one side or both. All you can do is strap it with some tape but it loses its comfort and usability.
This isn’t just a personal problem of something like me having a big head and breaking the headset, I know 5 other people with this headset who had theirs break after around a year of use. It’s strange that the headset has so many good reviews online, but if you do delve deeper, you’ll see a lot of people complaining about this flaw. All I can think is that most people making reviews, make it just after buying and don’t bother to change their original review or make a new review a year after buying a product to say it has a flaw.
Whilst this headset looks very tempting for the technical qualities for price, you might as well spend more money on a higher tier headset that is more durable and provides better results, as paying for a replacement for this in a year isn’t worth the lower price.Maybe if you are super careful with it, have a very small head and can’t afford more, this headset will be ok for you for more than a year, still it’s a risk.
As such, I don’t recommend buying this headset.
